Therefore, the changed resulted to the Demonstration School to change its name to Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University Demonstration School in the academic year 2006 with the determination of the President, Assistant Professor Chatchai Sukkakarn, in line with the main mission of the university, which is to create and develop students in the Faculty of Education to have a strong teaching experience and the needs of parents in the kindergarten level.
2009
In the fiscal year 2009, Asst. Prof. Chatchai Sukkakarn, the President, supported the school in a special case. He had established a budget to build a school’s building permanently. With the Bureau of the Budget approving the budget for the construction of the Demonstration School Building, amounting of 110 million baht, it is a 4-storey reinforced concrete building and each floor consists of classrooms and special rooms.
2012
In the academic year 2012, the demonstration school for both the preschool and primary school students had used the new school building. It is named as “Wachira Thipangkornpipat Building” for Sirimongkol by requesting a name from Crown Prince.

3. TEACHING SYSTEM

Satit Demonstration School Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University is a public school that offers two programs for students. The first one is the Mini Program and the second one is the English Program. It has Pre School, Kindergarten Mini Program, Kindergarten EP Program, EP Primary Program and Mini Program. Inside the classroom, most especially in the English Program, there are two advisers. One foreign adviser and the other one is a Thai adviser. The two of them manage the class together.

The teaching system of the school is really amazing. Values like being discipline, being punctual, and being kind could be seen in every students. A scheduled teacher and student teachers line up in front of the school gate to greet students and parents coming inside the school. The students also greet back the students. They also do that in the afternoon, when the parents and the students go out of school after class hours ends. They also hug the teacher before going out of the classroom as sign of saying good bye and thank you for the day.

Also, during the flag ceremony, students are not seen doing anything. Instead, they line up straight until the end of the ceremony. And inside the classroom, when the teacher (Thai or foreign) greets them before they start their class, they answer back with utmost politeness.

During the lesson, the teacher gives a lot of hands-on activities because according to what I have observed, they learn best when they are given hands-on activities before and after the discussion, be it in individual, in pair or in groups. The students are also active when it comes to recitation as seen in every class I have observed, if the teacher give points to each of them every time they recite.

Some teachers also use the traditional most especially when teaching  the Thai language. They effectively use the white board and a pen  only for teaching. There are some teachers most especially those who are teaching Arts, Science, English and Mathematics who use modern instructional materials. They use laptop, LED projector, and speakers during class discussion. Some teachers use both of the modern and the traditional style to enhance and make teaching and learning effective.

5. Measurement and evaluation system
Satit Demonstration School uses formative, summative and reflective assessment. For formative assessment, the teachers usually give it in the middle of the lesson or after the lesson is done. The teacher gives handouts for the students to answer or sometimes the teacher will ask the students to bring out their crayons or coloring pencils or solve a puzzle, or do an experiment. In summative assessment, the teacher gives the usual pen and paper exam. It takes sixty (60) minutes for each exam. Also, the teachers also allow the students to have reflection about themselves. They ask them about what they feel about the lesson, or do the teacher needs to explain it better.
For Measurement system, the school always gives the students a test for the evaluation in each topic, mid semester and final semester. The score will be process for student’s final score in a report in a semester.
6. Curriculum
The curriculum is to provide children with basic knowledge and skills in general. The 6-year primary school curriculum comprises five learning areas, namely: Basic Skills, comprising Thai language and mathematics.
2.    Life Experiences, focusing on the process of solving social and daily-life problems. Social studies and science are the main components of this subject area.
3.    Character Development, dealing with learning activities designed to develop desirable attitudes, values, behavior, and habits which form a child’s character.
4.    Work-Oriented Experience, dealing with practical skills and experiences for career preparation.
5.    Special Experience, dealing with learning areas of special interest to children. Most schools, however, offer English as a special experience subject.
Based on the 1999 Education Act, the primary education will be merged to be one level under the term ”basic education” comprising 12 years of education. The new basic education curriculum, which is currently under the development process along the line with the Education Act, will comprise eight subject areas, namely:
– hygienic and physical education
– visual arts, music and classical drama
– social studies, religion and culture
– Thai language
– Mathematics
– science and technology
– work and occupational development
-international languages.
7. Teaching plan
In making my teaching plan, I used the institutional layout of lesson plan of the school.
The plan includes activity or description of the lesson. And it contains review of the
past lesson, target vocabulary, discussion, observation, activity, cooler and homework.
The whole of the lesson plan has five (5) parts namely:
1.     Lesson Learning Outcome – it contains the different set of learning outcomes that the students should show at the end of the lesson.
2.    Content – it contains the kind of book, the unit of the topic and the page whether it is from a textbook or a workbook.
3.  Activity/Lesson Description – it contains the things that need to be done throughout the discussion. The lesson plan of Satit Demonstration School is already programmed in which you can choose what activities you will give to the students (example: reading, singing, phonics, observation, experiment, and video, PowerPoint, presentation, recognition, coloring, painting and many more)
4.    Lesson Testing – this is where you can choose what you are planning to test on the skills of the student. Because it is also programmed, you can choose from: speaking skills, drawing skills, listening skills, reading skills, comprehension skills, vocabulary skills, pronunciation skills, critical thinking skills, phonetic skills, spelling skills, presentation skills and many more.
5.    Lesson Evaluation – it contains what abilities does the teacher is planning to achieve from the students.
6.    Lesson Criteria – it contains the percentage of how many students understood, comprehended, participated, pronounced the words correctly and wrote the right words in the whole discussion. It depends on the teacher if how many percentage he or she will put on the lesson plan.

I teach science in three classes. Namely in EP 1, EP5, and EP6. I use the direct learning method. First at the beginning of learning I made a rule for them, and told them all to be ready to learn. Then I explained the learning material and they were also actively involved in it using various interesting learning media. At the end of the lesson I always give an evaluation in the form of a worksheet to them as a form of knowing the extent of their understanding of the subject matter.
8. Others
Aside from above, I also observed that students do not just learn inside the four corners of the classroom. Some teachers let the students outside to have a class or study. In that way, students tend to discover things beyond the classroom.

2. Teaching Plan
Since we going to be a teacher for this program so of course we are required to make lesson plans. I submit my lesson plan to my cooperating teacher and she always gives me appretiation and recommendations. For the first week, I was late giving a lesson plan because it had not been printed. So I gave a lesson plan the next morning before I started classes in EP 6. So that morning I gave two lesson plans for EP 5 and lesson plans for EP 6. After my class ended, then my mentor gave a revision to the lesson plan that I made. For the second week I still use the same lesson plan and there are no more revisions from my mentor.
For the third and fourth weeks, before the class starts I always give a lesson plan to the mentor, and no revision is given by the mentor to my lesson plan. It seems like my mentor gave me the freedom to plan learning as I wanted. I am very happy because there are no more revisions.

PART V

E. Summary and Suggestion

1.     Purposes of Practicum

It’s always great to learn so I’ve got so many things that I can apply in my country, especially in learning strategies. How to become an intellectual teacher. In this program taught me how to become a real teacher.

2.     Procedures of Practicum

I like how the procedures of this practicum. Firstly we will be introduced as the teacher at school, we did the observation in the classes and it’s not always have to be the subject that we will teach but we can observe the other classes so we can learn various strategies and class management, we will be guided to make a better lesson plan, how to emphasize and integrate the values, we had our teaching assistant experiences and we started to teach when we have learned to the culture of teaching and the difference between things in our country and this country.
We learned again even after we teach, we learned from the pupils, from the cooperating teacher or even ourselves. We can evaluate ourselves what things we still lack in doing something and we can maintain what we already good in doing something.

3.     Outcomes of Practicum

The outcomes of participating in this program are that I become a better teacher. Who is more professional in teaching. I can use it later when I enter the workforce.

4.     The Challenges of Practicum

Actually this is the first time I taught using English. Communication is an important thing that we must have. Because without good communication we will not be free to act. But that makes me drain a little energy, because I have to using English in communication and also when the learning process, and I have to prepare how the correct tenses, grammar, and pronounciation. Actually this is a little difficult and very challenging.

5.     Overall Impression

Overall, this program is very good. Because with this program, I can improve my English skills. Also practice my ability to teach. With this program I also meet people who inspire and also increase my friendship relationships more and more.

6.     Suggestions

My suggestion for the next batch is that the costs will be funded as a whole, so that more can register. And the quota is added to be able to produce smart and experienced teachers not only in education, but also in culture, region, tolerance and respect for diversity, etc. able to establish good cooperation between countries in Southeast Asia. My hope is that the sea teacher program will continue going forward and should always improve.
